Carole Jean Wrisley, age 73, of Bucyrus, KS, suffered a heart attack and passed away May 11, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. She was born Carole Jean Widiger on September 27, 1942 in Berwyn, Illinois, the daughter of Herbert E. and Helen (Styblo) Widiger.

The second of three sisters, she was especially close to her elder sister, Toni. She attended Morton High School in Berwyn and then obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a Master’s in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin. Her first job was setting up the library for the new Morton Junior College in Illinois. She then took a job as Reference Librarian at Michigan State University where she met her husband of nearly 47 years, Ray Wrisley. They were married August 30, 1969. Moving to Kansas in 1971, they built the house near Wea where they have lived since 1973. Carole set up the first library for the then new Johnson County Community College and worked full and part time at JCCC for more than 30 years, retiring in 2008. Though isolated from her old friends and much of her family, she kept in touch at Christmas and remembering everyone’s birthday. She spent much of her time reading, sending care packages to troops overseas and feeding the neighborhood birds and deer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marjorie.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Wrisley, of the home; two sons, Scott Leo and Jay Herbert Wrisley; daughter and son-in-law, Amy & Chad Curphy of Shawnee, grandsons, Raven Peer and Austin Curphy; her sister and best friend, Toni Wells of Littleton, Colorado; her remaining family, numerous nieces and nephews will miss her as will all who knew her generosity, cheerful, good humor and quick wit. She really was our better half.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Louisburg American Legion Post 250, 403 S. 9th Street, Louisburg, KS.

Inurnment at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park, IL.
