Alta “Marie” (Wise) Vohs, 95, lifelong resident of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully June 9th, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 1st, 1921, in Louisburg, Kansas, Marie was the daughter of Dewey Raymond and Amy Lavena (Belcher) Wise. She was born and raised on her family farm, West of Louisburg, with her parents and two brothers. She attended the Emerson one room school house and graduated from Louisburg High School in 1939. Following high school, Marie attended Kansas City Business College. She was united in marriage to Arthur Joseph Vohs on October 14th, 1941, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Louisburg. After getting married, Art and Marie moved to Kansas City, Kansas, for a short time but returned to the farm North of Louisburg with their first child, Barbara. They bought the family farm, where they happily lived the rest of their lives.

Art and Marie enjoyed many travels, especially spending winters in Texas, Arizona and numerous trips to Colorado to visit daughter Linda. They enjoyed their lives together so much that they would even hold hands to go out and bale hay.

Marie, the matriarch of the Vohs family, spent her whole life caring for her family, tending to the farm, and pursuing her catholic faith. She loved her family more than anything. She had a great passion for fishing, gardening, baking, and sewing, making her a woman of many talents. She attended various activities, county fairs, school concerts, and athletic events for her children. Her support continued on as her family grew with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed monthly breakfasts with her fellow Panhandle retirees as well as weekly breakfast and lunches with her dear friends. She looked forward to the annual Alumni dinner every year, visiting with school friends and classmates. Marie had a zest for life, which was represented in her bucket list. For her 90th birthday she checked off the last two items, riding a horse one more time and taking a hot air balloon ride with her son Art.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Raymond Wise and Amy Lavena (Belcher) Wise, her husband, Arthur of 52 years and her brothers, Harvey and Dale Wise.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Renner (Chris), Louisburg, KS; Arthur Dale Vohs (Pam), Louisburg, KS; Linda Cook (Doug), Green Valley, AZ; Mary Ann Stiles (Dennis), Louisburg, KS; Sisters-In-Law, Betty Vohs, Betty Wise, Hazel Wise; Grandchildren, Christine Niebaum, Dana Peuser, Leman Renner, Todd Vohs, Mike Cook, Sean Stiles, Carrie Vohs, Jason Vohs, Chad Stiles, Jeremy Stiles; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; as well as many relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catholic Community Hospice in memory of Marie Vohs or the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Arthur J. Vohs.
