Kathryn M. Schroeder Rogers, 99, died June 25, 2015. She was born in Paola on January 22, 1916, to Louis F. and Katie Wubben Schroeder.

She attended Scott Valley School near their farm home west of Paola. The farm was later part of the Hillsdale Lake. She then graduated from Paola High School in 1934.

After graduating she worked in Jen Donovan’s Beauty Shop in Paola for several years and attended Cosmetology School in Kansas City. She married James (Jim) F. Rogers and lived on a farm south of Louisburg. When the family moved to Louisburg she later opened Rogers Beauty Shop working for over 30 years. She also worked in the Louisburg nursing home for a year as a nurse’s aide.

She was a farmer’s wife helping in the fields, taking her turn serving fried chicken lunches to the neighbors that helped each other at harvest time. She was very active as a 4-H leader, teaching sewing and cooking, and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. For many years she took care of the candles at First Christian Church, saying that was her way to serve the Church and her quiet time. She shared her talent of music as an organist for First Christian Church and Eastern Star. She and Jim were active in several Square Dance Clubs and enjoyed traveling to different towns. She was very family oriented and enjoyed family activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, three sisters, Margaret Stiles; Lena Secrest; Esther Thorne; three brothers, Christie Schroeder; Wesley Schroeder; Louis Schroeder; son-in-law, Loren Evison and two granddaughters, Debra Watson and Amy Rogers.

Survivors include daughter, Lois Evison, Paola; James Rogers, III, and wife Phyllis, Dover, NH; Steve Rogers and wife Jo, Dayton, OH; one sister, Edith Hartley, Vancouver, WA; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Louisburg First Christian Church.
