Floyd "Cy" Hootz passed away peacefully in his home Dec. 22, 2015. Cy truly had a zest for life as he never met a stranger, leaving an impression on all who knew him. He will be remembered by his endless stories, jokes and laughter he shared along his journey.

Cy strived to learn something new every day of his life. In his many years of travels, as most of you know, he was considered to be quite the historian. He could not not pass a fishing hole without stopping to drop a line to test the waters.

One of his greatest prides was working at Santa Fe Trail Junior High School, with many students and faculty that still call him "grandpa" or "friend" to this day. Cy's crowning achievement was being a husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd & Nellie Hootz; daughter Martha Rose DeFriese; and brother JB Hootz. He is survived by his wife, Helen G. Hootz, of the home; daughters Karen L. Geiger (Jim) of Golden, CO, Tamara E. O'Malley of Paola, KS, Michele L. Bridges of Paola, KS; sons Michael A. Hootz, Sr. of Leavenworth, KS and Jerry D. Donner of Tonganoxie, KS; 12 grandchildren and numerous blessed great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 am, at First Christian Church, 602 N. 1st Street, Louisburg, KS. Memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice
