Gloria J. Stone, age 82, of Louisburg, KS passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. She was born April 4, 1933 at Paola, KS the daughter of Byron and Freda Hayes Shields. She was united in marriage on October 2, 1954 to Walter V. Stone. They were the first couple to be married in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church when it was built in 1954.

Gloria graduated from Paola High School then moved to Louisburg after getting married to Walter. Her faith was an important part of her life. She played the organ and sang at the Catholic Church for many years, not only the church services but for many funerals. She enjoyed being outdoors, taking care of her yard and attending countless baseball and softball games as the “unofficial” score keeper. Gloria loved the holidays, spending time with family and sharing stories of her life. She always had a smile on her face and she didn’t know a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter V. Stone, brother, John Shields and sister, Betty Matney.

Survivors include four sons, Rick (Cheryl) Stone; Steve (Dehonna) Stone; Dennis (Lisa) Stone; and Greg Stone all of Louisburg; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to the Louisburg Endowment Association for the Walter V. Stone Scholarship Fund.
