James Arthur Richardson, 56, of Spring Hill, KS, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

James was the fourth of nine children born to Perry and Eleanor Hanfeld Richardson on August 28, 1958 in Olathe, KS

He graduated from Louisburg High School in May 1976 and in August that same year he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served until January 1980 and reached the rank of SW2. He received many awards during his service including the Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Third Gold Wreath Award (Silver Star). He married Jean Ann Shipps in July of 1981 and had two children.

James worked for Johnson County Topsoil for 25 years and was most recently employed by Quest Diagnostics. He loved spending time with his grandson, watching the Kansas Jayhawks and relaxing on his beautiful screened deck.

James is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jennifer & Terrance Waldenmaier of Spring Hill; grandson, Camden, mother, Eleanor Richardson of Louisburg; sisters, Barbara Meyer of Louisburg; Ruth Slagle of Pittsburg, KS; Ronda Santana of Saginaw, TX; Mary Pemberton of Fort Scott, KS; brothers, Jack Richardson of Kansas City, KS; Joe Richardson of Nyssa, OR; and several nieces and nephews.

James is preceded in death by his son James Matthew Richardson, father Perry Richardson and brothers John and Bill Richardson.

The family suggests contributions to the Miami County Cancer Foundation or to the American Heart Association.
